San Francisco - Friday

Friday morning started just like Thursday morning. Awake at 6:00, breakfast at Mel's Diner and on the shuttle by 8:00. The tour to Muir Woods and Sauscalito was wonderful. It's amazing that you can be in the middle of a big city one minute and drive 45 minutes and be surrounded by the beauty of the redwoods. Unfortunately we only had one hour to spend under the trees. Then the guide took us to Sauscalito which is a quaint little town that overlooks San Francisco. The guide told us that he has never seen a home sell for less then 12.5 million dollars - yikes!! Mike and I ate lunch there, so it didn't allow for much time to see all of the shops. After the tour, they dropped us off at their office and we went to purchase our Muni pass. That gave us access to the cable cars, street cars and the bus. One thing we learned very quickly was do not ask the driver of the bus advice. They do not like their jobs and they have no desire to help a tourist find their way. We took the cable car back to our hotel room to drop off our stuff and then we headed to Haight/Ashbury on the bus. We got lucky and got off at the right stop (totally by accident). We checked out a few stores where Mike found a Beatles t-shirt. Then we went in search of the house the Grateful Dead lived in and Charles Manson's house. Afterwards it was time for dinner and there was no way I was eating in the Haight/Ashbury district. We started walking with map in hand and a sophisticated older couple were happy to give us advise on where to eat. They suggested we make our way to Union Street which took us through Pacific Heights. He found the house that Mrs. Doubtfire was filmed in. Pacific Heights is home to some amazing houses. One house was on the market for $65 million and it wasn't even finished on the inside. We finally settled on Perry's for dinner and later discovered that it was a chain. It was not the best, but anything will do when you are starving. When we got finished with dinner, we decided it was easier to just walk home again. This time I wasn't as thrilled about the idea. My feet and back were tired and sore, but we made it.
